Economic Impact Assessment Of The Vancouver International Aiport

Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is the second busiest airport in Canada, having served 16.2 million passengers, 198,422 tonnes of cargo, and 258,000 aircraft take-offs and landings in 2009. Sixty-seven airlines connected YVR to 119 destinations worldwide. The airport is home to 400 businesses and it directly employs thousands of people. In addition, the Airport is a gateway to international trade and commerce. Many of Richmond’s top employers have chosen to locate in this city because of its proximity to the Airport.

Economic impact studies of Vancouver International Airport (YVR) have been conducted in 1994, 1997, 2000 and 2005, tracking the airport’s growth and development. An update of the economic impact of the Vancouver International Airport is required. As with the previous studies, this study is focusing on the employment impact of Vancouver International Airport in terms of person years and number of jobs.
